Andi Weigand is one of the new generation winemakers in Franconia who do things differently, shunning additives, picking by hand, revisiting traditional techniques and cutting no corners. His approach mixes tradition with progress. He uses an 80-year-old basket press and vinifies in large German oak. He also experiments with maceration in qvevri.
For this 100% Muller Thurgau grapes were pressed directly into 10 year old 1250 liter barrels and fermented spontaneously. It was then left for 10 months on the full lees in barrel. The wine was bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero addition of sulfur.
