Rodrigo Mendez makes wine in the village of Meano in the most north-western area of Rias Baixas. His vineyards are quite isolated in the mountains and surrounded by pine forest, but they don't miss the influence from the Atlantic ocean beyond. He grows native Galician grape varieties and farms using organic methods, fermenting with natural yeast only.
Rodrigos aim is to show Albariño in a different light, looking back to the time before stainless steel fermentation became the norm in the 1980’s. But his wines still retain the zingy freshness and bright fruit so typical of the region. This 100% Albarino is fermented 50% in stainless steel and 50% in oak, and aged for up to 6 months in large oak foudres.
