In 1992, at just 23 years old, Christine Dupuy became the youngest winemaker in the Madiran appellation after unexpectedly inheriting her family’s 6-hectare vineyard following her father’s death. Situated on the rolling hills of Maumusson, with soils of heavy yellow clay, pebbles, and limestone, the domaine had been in her family since the French Revolution. Although newly qualified as an oenologist, Christine lacked practical experience, which she quickly gained through stages at notable local domaines such as Aydie, Capmartin, and Chapelle l’Enclos, supported by guidance from Alain Brumont. Over time, she expanded her holdings to 20 hectares across Maumusson and Saint-Lanne, transitioning to organic farming in 2010 and achieving certification in 2014.
Christine’s approach to winemaking is marked by a rare sensitivity for crafting balanced, fruit-driven wines in a region often known for overly robust, oak-heavy styles. She owns some of the region’s oldest Tannat vines, dating back to 1870, and produces both Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh wines, including dry and sweet whites. Her methods include long élevages in cement tanks for her basic cuvée and a combination of oak and cement aging for her Vieilles Vignes cuvée, known for its exceptional longevity. Now recognized as one of Madiran’s leading winemakers, Christine’s skill and dedication have earned her critical acclaim and a reputation for producing wines of purity and finesse.
