The tradition of Beaujolais Nouveau started simply as a celebration of the end of the harvest with the first wine of the year. It's since turned into a worldwide event! . This year we have two cuvées of Nouveau from Selene, a new producer on our shelves:
Sylvère Trichard has taken over his uncle’s estate with his partner, Elodie. They are a dedicated pair of growers, with Elodie responsible for vegetable production and Sylvère for the vines. Organically certified they are moving forward with promoting as much biodiversity as possible on the land. The wines are fermented with native yeasts, all go through semi-carbonic maceration (the traditional style of Beaujolais) and are aged mostly in concrete vats (with fruit from his grandmother’s favourite parcel reserved for ageing in older barrels). Minimal sulphur is used at bottling, often none is added at all.
The Domaine Nouveau is from grapes grown on the estate. They also do an négoce cuvée which you can find here.
