Mojo Pin 2019 is a much lighter expression than the 2018 vintage. The Marselan is hand destemmed and macerated for 2 days. The Cabernet Franc is hand destemmed, macerated 6 days and then aged for 9 months in old French oak. To lighten up this vintage Dido and Jur decided to add 20% juice from grapes they bought from La Salada, in Penedès. This Xarel-lo and Macabeu was macerated whole bunch for 7 days. The resulting wine is both complex and ultimately fresh and drinkable.
Dido & Jurriaan traveled from vineyard to vineyard to make wine all over the world before settling in Alt-Empordà in Spain. Here they found 9.5 hectares of planted vineyards for sale - Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tannat and Barbera - and through crowdfunding were able to buy them. Their first vintage was released in 2018 - wines made naturally with no sulphur (or anything else) added. Dido & Jurriaan live in the midst of their vineyards, restoring them, converting them to biodynamic, and learning more every day about the climate, soil and how to best express the terroir in their wines. Each vintage is different as they experiment and gain more insight. Vinyes Tortuga is named after the turtles that live in the vineyards.
