Remi is one of the most well respected natural winemakers in the Languedoc. He is commited to producing wine with no inputs and has long been a member of the S.A.I.N.S. association (for winemakers working without the use of sulphites). He has been organic since 2002 and worked without sulphites since 2007.
Remi works his land with the aid of his two horses on plots near the town of Pezenas Herault. The soils are very complex because the source rocks are either derived from limestone from ancient marine deposits or basalt from ancient volcanoes nearby. Widely thought of as one of the best grape-growers in the region, Remi also sells fruit to the likes of L’Octavin & Es d’Aqui.
Remi was one of the four originators of the Brutal label and has always stayed true to it's ethos. The 2020 is a vibrant blend of 70% Mourvedre & 30% Carignan. The fruit was all destemmed then macerated for around 4 weeks before ageing in fibreglass. Exploding with black fruit with a lovely line of acidity that lifts the wine it's drinking well already but will age beautifully
The Brutal! wine labels came about from a drunken night in Catalunya by Danish importers Roskorth & Roskorth. They wanted zero-zero wines (nothing added or removed) that had a production level of less than 200 bottles and an intrinsic flaw or technical wine fault that made the wine's character more exciting in the glass.
