Wayne Ahrens and Suzi Hilder grew up in the wine industry, but their vision was to create small-batch, low-intervention natural wines without the use of systemic chemicals. So they left their stable jobs with large wine companies to start Smallfry Wines. They took over an old biodynamic vineyard in Vine Vale, Barossa, which had been cared for by Ken Schliebs for 52 harvests. Unmoved by trends, Schliebs preserved the vineyard’s heritage, including its many ungrafted vines.
In the warm climate of Australia's Barossa Valley, where full-bodied, oak-aged reds dominate, Smallfry does things differently. They harvest early to produce lighter, fresher wines with lower alcohol levels. Their wines are vibrant, alive, and full of joy.
Discover a fresher, lighter expression of Barossa. The Eclectik Violet blend combines older plantings of Grenache with newer, drought-resistant Cinsault—often referred to as the “Pinot Noir of the south” in France for its light, subtly earthy character.
The result is a beautifully pale, soft red with minimal tannins and just 12% alcohol. Expect flavors of raspberry, strawberry, cherry, and a touch of almond, making this wine effortlessly drinkable.
