Rybeyrenc AKA the forgotten grape of Languedoc, is a grape with an unusual history: apparently the most widely planted grape in the region before phylloxera hit, it was at the time, blamed for being too weak, too susceptible to disease and even spreading diseases, hence it was subject to a witch hunt that wiped it out. The variety has large leaves and open spread bunch. Ribeyrenc means something like the Italian “rivierasco” in Occitan, meaning that is was traditionally planted on the riversides.
