THE PEOPLE

After a career as a diving instructor and underwater photographer, Marine discovered viticulture while living in Turkey, eventually pursuing formal studies in Beaune. Her practical training included three formative years with the Plageoles family, pioneers of Gaillac's natural wine revival and her early mentors. Thanks to a stroke of good fortune, Marine was able to rent her own vineyards in a region that once had 20,000 hectares under vine, now reduced to just 5,000.

Marine works with a range of local grape varieties, including Mauzac, Loin de l’Oeil, Braucol, Duras, along with some Gamay and Syrah—both of which have historical and commercial relevance in Gaillac. Her vineyards lie on the southeast-facing slopes of the Cordais plateau, where schist over limestone soils offer a distinct terroir compared to the more common clay-limestone in the region. All her wines are fermented and aged in fiberglass, with no added sulfur on the reds, reflecting her minimal-intervention approach.

THE PLACE

Gaillac, located in southwest France near Toulouse, is one of the country’s oldest wine regions, with viticultural roots dating back to Roman times. Known for its diversity, Gaillac produces a wide range of wines—reds, whites, rosés, sparkling, and even sweet—using both international and rare local grape varieties. Indigenous grapes like Duras, Braucol (Fer Servadou), Mauzac, and Loin de l’Œil define the region’s unique identity, offering wines with distinct character and freshness. The varied terroir, including limestone, clay, and gravel soils, combined with a temperate climate, allows for expressive, food-friendly wines that highlight Gaillac’s rustic charm and historic depth.
