Diego Losada makes wine on the outskirts of his hometown Ponferrada in Bierzo, working several small plots of land dotted around the valley on steep mountain slopes. They are all old vines (minimum 50 years old) and low yielding. The soil is rich in minerals ; millions of years ago the valley of Bierzo was an inland sea. The soil is clay or calcareous scattered with slate, iron, gold & quartz.
Diego ages his wines in either cement or very old wood, believing wine needs to breathe as it develops. He always does a very gentle maceration, usually just a few days of whole berries before pressing, and he will never filter or use fining agents. The resulting wines are pure, alive, fruit forward, fresh and mineral driven.
