THE WINE
WOW! We love this wine - such an easy drinking and versatile wine.
Ciliegiolo is a red grape variety native to central Italy, particularly Tuscany and Umbria, where it has long been used as a blending partner in wines like Chianti. Its name, derived from ciliegia (cherry in Italian), reflects its signature bright cherry aromas and juicy, red-fruited character. Once considered a minor grape, Ciliegiolo has seen renewed interest from a new generation of winemakers who value its vibrant acidity, soft tannins, and ability to produce fresh, approachable wines.
THE PEOPLE
Andrea and Pilar, brother and sister, represent the next generation of the Gritti family. Following their studies and travels around the world, the two began their journey in the family business, deciding quickly to launch an original project, allowing them to invest their passion, skills and love for wine. They quickly replaced the conventional farming techniques of their parents and moved the wines into organic management, followed by allowing natural fermentation to take place.
THE PLACE
Umbria, often called the "green heart" of Italy, produces wines that reflect its rolling hills, diverse microclimates, and rich agricultural traditions. Known for both red and white wines, the region’s most famous varieties include Sagrantino, a bold, tannic red native to Montefalco, and Grechetto, a crisp, structured white often used in blends like Orvieto. Umbrian wines tend to be earthy, expressive, and food-friendly, with many producers embracing organic and traditional methods. Though often overshadowed by neighbouring Tuscany, Umbria offers distinctive, character-driven wines with strong ties to place and heritage.
