A member of the Styrian group of vignerons, Schmeck das Leben (taste of life), Andreas Tscheppe has small vineyard parcels and a corner of a cellar in his brother, Ewald’s house, where he makes his wine. This is uber small scale production with all its emphasis on the life it can promote in the vineyard!

Andreas only makes white wines (Sauvignon, Chardonnay and two Muskatellers) with some being made as skin contact wines. All wines see some time maturing in barrels (old ones!) before release.

Farming is biodynamic with a focus on the promotion of life in the vineyards which are full of flowers and insects. Thus the distinctive labels documenting this abundant life found here.

The soil is very sparse and dominated by Opok with lots of stones on the surface. The remarkably high mica content in the soil is deemed responsible for the particular graphite scent of the wines.

Schwalbenschwanz is a skin-contact Goldmuskateller - a grape originally found in South Tyrol - brought back to Styria by Andreas and planted at the south-east facing high altitude vineyard, Krepskogel, full of Opok bedrock.  This is a total experience of a wine - endless, ethereal and utterly unimitable!
