Childhood friends, Pedro M. Leunda and Jon Aseginolaza,  are both biologists, but infused with the culinary traditions of their hometown, the culinary mecca that is San Sebastien, it was only a matter of time that their paths would lead them to the vineyard. Whilst Pamplona is now their home town they work a total of 10 parcels across less than 4 hectares  scattered around Navarre with some crossing into the Rioja region.  Their aim is to emulate Burgundy with a 'true' expression of each of the different parcels of land they manage.

Matsanko is a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha & 5% Viura from non-irrigated old bush vines located in the village of Dicastillo (Navarre). Grown on sandy-clay soils, hand-harvested, a natural whole-bunch fermentation in stainless steel, then manually turned-up every day and pressed by hand in basket press and transferred to stainless steel for malolactic fermenttaion.  The wine then spends a further 5 months ageing in old French oak barrels.
