Part of the new wave of naturally-focussed Champagne producers, Alex Lamblot is producing some of the most exciting wines from his cellar in Janvry in the Petite Montagne de Reims (Marne).

Farming 3.5ha of his family's vines across Vrigny, Chenay, Janvry and Gueux, Alex is dedicated to increasing the biodiversity of his land whilst making as little impact as posible on the environment.

Working biodynamically, he uses chickens and crimping techniques to manage the grass and and plantlife between his vines rather than ploughing and has introduced agroforestry into his vineyards, planting over 100 trees per hectare.

In the cellar he works with a slowly and gently, pressing and vinifying each cepage and parcel seperately.  Ageing is done in old 228-600 litre barrels and foudre as well as experiments in amphora and demi-johns.  For secondary fermentation Alex uses a lower amount of sugar in his tirage resulting in a fine soft mousse-like bubble.  Alex also practises 'poignettage' - shaking each bottle on its lees by hand at intervals to ensure a richer style full of the brioche notes one would assoiciate with autolysis.

Mouvance is Alex's entry level blend of the classic trio (Pinot noir, Meunier and Chardonnay).  Brut Natur, it has an elegance and richness to it that makes for a moreish bottle!
