THE WINE

Terroirs de Beru is a composition of the different parcels farmed and run by the family - a great entry point to explore their style and wines.

The grapes are hand-harvested with a whole bunch long gentle press cycle followed by natural malolactic fermentation all in oak followed by further ageing for 12 months in old oak barrels and 1 year in a stainless steel tank.  No filtration, no fining and no sulphites added.

THE PEOPLE

The land around Château Béru has been famed for its wines for hundreds of years!  The Béru family have owned the estate for 400 years, and even writings by 9th-century monks note the vineyards growing here.

Despite its long history, current owners Laurence de Béru and her daughter, Athénaïs, were aware that the soil was fragile, and that its survival depended on moving away from damaging conventional farming techniques. The fertilisers, pesticides and damage brought on through the use of tractors were gradually destroying the microorganisms in the soil that had served winemakers so well for so long. Since 2005, only organic methods have been used on the estate, and from 2010 they began to convert to biodynamic practices. Now only a limited amount of natural chemical intervention is used, such as treatment with sulphur, and a horse-drawn plough prepares the soil, rather than a tractor.

THE PLACE

Chablis is a northern subregion of Burgundy, located closer to Champagne than to the Côte d'Or, and is known for producing some of the most distinctive expressions of Chardonnay in the world. The region's cool continental climate contributes to the wines' high acidity and crisp profile, while its unique Kimmeridgian limestone and clay soils, rich in fossilized marine life, lend a pronounced minerality and flinty character. Chablis is divided into four appellations—Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru—each reflecting different elevations, exposures, and soil depths. Wines from Chablis are typically unoaked or only lightly oaked, emphasizing purity, freshness, and notes of green apple, lemon, and wet stone. The Premier and Grand Cru wines, grown on the best-exposed slopes, offer greater depth, complexity, and aging potential while maintaining the region’s signature tension and elegance.
