THE WINE

The new iteration of his orange is a lovely blend of Pinot Gris & Gewürztraminer from a plot of south facing vines on marl soils. The grapes were de-stemmed then given 8 days maceration. Pouring a beautiful shade of amber, it's bursting with peachy aromatics and welcome freshness. A delight!

THE PEOPLE

Located in Rosenwiller, just a few miles from Rosheim in northern Alsace, the estate has deep family roots dating back to Theo’s grandfather, who ran a vine nursery. Theo’s father, Nicolas, joined the estate in 1990 and, after carefully considering the impact of pesticides, converted the 10-hectare vineyard fully to organic farming by 2008, beginning a gradual transition to biodynamics in 2016, currently covering three hectares. The soils are primarily clay-limestone, with three distinct types of limestone — shell, oolitic, and dolomitic — each leaving a strong imprint on the wines.

For many years, Nicolas sold his fruit, but in 2020 Theo returned home after gaining vinification experience in Burgundy. Initially planning to travel the world, he instead began making wine alongside his father and grandmother, who still assists on the estate. Though only in his early twenties, Theo is focused, knowledgeable, and passionate, connected with other natural winemakers in the region, including family friend Jean-Marc Dreyer and Julien Albertus of Kumpf et Meyer, who have also sourced fruit from the estate. In the cellar, he favours short, destemmed macerations, gentle gravity transfers, and careful oxygen management. His wines are unfiltered, unfined, and bottled without additions, showing remarkable precision, vibrancy, and stability even in the first vintage — a promising start to an exciting journey.

THE PLACE

The wines of Rosenwiller are known for their purity, minerality, and delicate aromatic expression. Nestled in northern-central Alsace, the vineyards sit on a mix of limestone, clay, and sandstone soils, which impart subtle structure and tension to the wines. Compared to nearby villages like Heiligenstein, Rosenwiller wines often display a softer, more approachable texture, with gentle fruit and floral notes, while still maintaining clarity and precision. Winemakers here typically emphasize organic or biodynamic practices and minimal intervention, producing wines that are elegant, focused, and expressive — offering a refined, site-driven style that reflects the village’s unique terroir within the broader Alsace landscape.
