THE WINE

Classic Marsala as it should be, sweet without being cloying with a wonderfully saline lick.  Particularly refreshing as an aperitif.

THE PEOPLE
Cantina Foderà, established in 1849 by Matteo Foderà, is a family-run winery located in Marsala, Sicily, now led by the sixth generation, Dario Foderà. The vineyards are situated approximately 30 meters above sea level, near the Stagnone Nature Reserve, thriving in medium-textured Mediterranean red soils rich in iron and magnesium. The winery practices organic viticulture under the guidance of agronomist Antonino Foderà, focusing on minimal-intervention methods to preserve the natural expression of their wines.

THE PLACE

Marsala, located on the western coast of Sicily, is one of Italy’s most historic wine regions, best known for its namesake fortified wine. The region benefits from a warm Mediterranean climate and coastal influences, with vineyards planted on limestone and red sandy soils. Traditionally, Marsala wine is made from indigenous grapes like Grillo, Catarratto, and Inzolia, producing styles ranging from dry to sweet. While fortified Marsala remains iconic, modern producers are also crafting high-quality dry wines that showcase the terroir’s minerality and richness.
