THE WINE
Seriously great value fizz! Mostly Lagrano grape, fermented then refermented in the bottle by adding grape juice that was kept frozen from the harvest. A classic Methode Ancestrale, or as Matteo calls it - Metodo Interrotto. Clean and crisp with a pleasing bitter twang that makes it great for food pairing.
THE PEOPLE
Matteo is the 4th generation of winemakers to take custody of his family estate. Trained in agronomy rather than winemaking he has progressed beyond his parents commitment to managing the vines without synthetic sprays to now incorporating biodynamic methods and treatments. Wines are fermented naturally in either in cement tanks or small glass demijohns with no temperature control. To clarify the wines they are often racked into demijohns during the winter and placed outside in the snow allowing the wine to naturally settle rather than using fining agents.
THE PLACE
Set at over 700 metres above sea level outside the city of Trento in the heart of the Dolomites. Soils are surface clay over schist and broken granite, known as sasso dolomitico, planted in several small parcels surrounding the village of Povo, directly above Trento. Vines are trained in the traditional 'Pergola Trentina' allowing for proper ventilation, drying and sun exposure. Local varieties are prized above all though there is a small planting of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay used to make the "Metodo Interrotto" sparkling wines
