THE PEOPLE
La Roche Buissière is a family-run estate near Faucon, northeast of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Southern Rhône. Since 1999, Antoine and Laurence Joly have managed the 18-hectare vineyard, continuing the organic practices initiated by Antoine's father in the 1980s. They cultivate traditional Rhône varieties—Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault—on diverse clay-limestone soils at elevations between 300 and 450 meters. Their commitment to regenerative agriculture includes sowing cover crops and minimizing soil disturbance, enhancing resilience against climate challenges.
 
In the cellar, the Jolys employ gentle winemaking techniques: hand-harvesting, native yeast fermentation, and aging in concrete tanks without fining, filtration, or added sulfur (minimal sulphur is used at bottling). This approach yields wines that are fresh, vibrant, and expressive of their terroir.
 
THE PLACE
Vaison-la-Romaine, located in the northern reaches of the Southern Rhône, is surrounded by vineyards that benefit from the region’s Mediterranean climate and varied soils, including limestone, clay, and galets roulés. The wines here are typically classified under the Côtes du Rhône or Côtes du Rhône Villages appellations, with Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre forming the backbone of the reds—known for their warmth, spice, and supple fruit. Whites and rosés, though less common, are also produced and can be vibrant and aromatic. With its Roman ruins and hillside vineyards, Vaison-la-Romaine offers a rich blend of history and terroir that’s reflected in the character of its wines.
