THE WINE
One of the first English sweet wines to hit the market and definitely the first red sweet wine with only 320 bottles made!
A fresh and vibrant sweet mistelle from biodynamic pioneers, Limeburn Hill. Produced from red PIWI (disease resistant) variety, Rondo, the mistelle is inspired by sweet Jura wines which halt the fermentation of grape juice with the addition of a spirit (their own eau de vie), to create a fresh-style, semi-sweet drink which pairs beautifully with a cheeses and desserts. With tasting notes of dark berries and cherries, chocolate and spice - it’s autumn in a glass.
THE PEOPLE
Limeburn Hill is a stunning biodynamic vineyard just outside Bristol, near Chew Magna. Robin & Georgina's focus is on creating a diverse ecosystem in the vineyard and wines that truly show the terroir of thier land. They make carefully crafted, totally original naturally sparkling (Pet Nat) wines from disease resitant PIWI varietals. Farming biodynamically they also go further and never spray anything on their vines they have not made themselves from their own land (with the exception of whey from a neighbouring dairy) - including zero-use of copper and sulphur!
THE PLACE
Chew Magna sits at a high elevation to the south of Bristol (UK) on limestone bedrock. With stunning views over the surrounding landscape this is a special place to be with wildlife integrated and sharing the landscape with Limeburn's farming. In a recent survey of UK vineyards only 60 species of bird were found across the whole UK - Limeburn Hill has counted 63 within their vineyard - truly testimony to the work done here.
