THE WINE

The 2024 version of this wine is bright and fresh with peachy fruit and a light fresh minerality.  100% Viognier, pressed direct, gravity fed into tank for 24 hours for the gross lees to settle, then aged on the fine lees for around 11 months before bottling.  Clean as a whistle - bottled with zero additions, these are wines of immense drinkability, stability & value.

THE PEOPLE

Laurent’s winery is simple but thoughtfully designed to suit his philosophy of winemaking. A platform behind the cellar holds a traditional basket press; when he presses the fruit, the juice flows by gravity into tanks below for élevage — a gentle, natural process that avoids mechanical intervention.

A meticulous viticulturist, Laurent is known for the immaculate condition of both his fruit and his cellar. This precision shows in the purity of his wines, which remain vivid and expressive despite his choice to avoid sulfites, fining, or filtration. His focus is always on fruit and freshness, aiming to capture the vitality of each vintage. As a result, his élevage is intentionally brief, preserving the youthful energy that defines his wines.

THE PLACE

Laurent Fell has some of the highest vines in the Ardeche, on south facing slopes at 500m altitude on the edge of the wild and mountainous Cevennes forest. The soil is sandstone formed in the Triassic period coming from the degradation of granite that was recompressed by pressure when the sea settled in this time. There are large quartz pebbles, shale and flint from the glacial scree. This combined with the elevation of the vineyards brings freshness and minerality to the wines. He’s on his own up there, which is beneficial as there is no risk of pollutants from other vineyards and plenty of biodiversity.
