THE WINE

Anathème Blanc is a distinctive and characterful wine that offers exceptional value. Sourced from old goblet-trained vines of Ugni Blanc and Carignan Noir growing on clay and sandy soils, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented directly in demi-muid barrels, where the wine ages on its lees for nine months.

Made without any additions, fining, or filtration, and bottled by gravity, this is a pure and expressive wine. It captures the energy of a bright vintage with remarkable generosity and a vibrant underlying tension.

THE PEOPLE

A former IT consultant, Thierry left the corporate world in 2002 to reconnect with the land, despite having no farming experience. With roots in a family of farmers near Nîmes, he chose to settle in Souvignargues—a small village between the Cévennes and the Camargue—and began his journey in 2004 with five hectares of old vines. Inspired by a friendship with Eric Pfifferling, he adopted a philosophy of minimal intervention, working as gently and naturally as possible from the start. Now farming 12 hectares of Aramon, Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, and Viognier on clay-sand soils, Thierry's vineyards benefit from cool summer nights and mountain air from the Aigoual massif. He cultivates co-planted parcels surrounded by forest, emphasizing soil health and biodiversity. Nearly two decades in, he’s a leading figure in the region’s natural wine movement—mentoring young growers, advocating zero-sulphur winemaking, and reviving traditional goblet pruning. In the cellar, his approach is equally restrained: short macerations, gentle pressing, and simple ageing, all resulting in wines that reflect his light-handed touch.

THE PLACE

The Gard region of southern France, nestled between the Rhône Valley and Languedoc, is known for producing bold and sun-drenched wines that reflect its Mediterranean climate and diverse terroirs. Vineyards here benefit from warm temperatures, rocky soils, and the cooling mistral winds, contributing to the richness and balance of its wines. The region produces a wide variety of reds, whites, and rosés, often under the Côtes du Rhône, Costières de Nîmes, and IGP Pays d’Oc appellations. Reds, made primarily from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, are full-bodied and expressive, while the whites and rosés offer fresh, aromatic profiles ideal for warm-weather sipping.  For us the predomaint feature of wines of the region are the defining tasting notes of garrigue and Mediterranean herbs.
