THE WINE

A blend of 52% Pinot noir and 48% Pinot meunier from 2021 and 2022.

60% of the blend comprises Pinot noir and Pinot meunier grown in 2021 by Jules and Lucie at Ham Street in Kent (in biodynamic conversion). In the winery, fruit  was hand destemmed and underwent semi-carbonic maceration for 2 months before being pressed to neutral oak barrels, where it remained for 19 months.

The remaining 40% of the blend is comprised of whole cluster Pinot meunier from the warm 2022 vintage, which was macerated in an open top fermenter for 13 days, pressed and raised in barrel for 11 months. This fruit was farmed organically (uncertified) on blue clay soils at Crouch Valley Vineyard, Essex.  The two wine parcels were blended and bottled via gravity in September 2023.

Only 720 bottles were made in total!

THE PEOPLE

Daniel & Nicola Ham work from their cellar in Wiltshire (located at Botley Farm - home to Domaine Hugo) making pure & exciting wines completely free of additives. Formerly the head winemaker of Langham Wines we think Dan is probably the top winemaker working in the UK at the moment producing some of the most exciting wines on the natural wine scene.

THE PLACE

The UK natural wine scene is increasingly defined by a new wave of producers embracing low-intervention viticulture and winemaking. Across regions like Kent, Sussex, and Essex, growers are shifting toward organic and biodynamic practices, prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, and sustainability. In the cellar, many work with native yeasts, avoid filtration, and limit or eliminate sulfur use, allowing the wines to reflect their vineyard origins and the nuances of each vintage. This hands-off approach is resulting in expressive, characterful wines that challenge traditional expectations of English wine and are helping to shape a more diverse and dynamic national wine identity.
