THE PEOPLE
Paul Gosset comes from a family deeply rooted in Champagne, with a winemaking heritage dating back to the 1500s. Though the Gosset name is well known, Paul’s journey was not predetermined—he found his passion for wine while working at a wine bar in Reims, where a conversation with his partner sparked the idea of returning to farming. His family retained 3.5 hectares of vineyards after the estate split in the 1960s, with parcels in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Dizy, and Chouilly. Paul's father, Michel, began transitioning the vineyards in the 1980s toward more terroir-focused and sustainable farming, including a cherished single vineyard in Aÿ used solely for still Coteaux Champenois wines. Now leading the estate, Paul is deeply committed to biodiversity and expressing the unique character of each plot. He produces single-parcel Champagnes with a thoughtful, low-intervention approach—using spontaneous fermentation, malolactic conversion, and varied dosages. Wines are gently pressed with a traditional, slow press he refuses to modernize, and every detail, from cotton labels designed by his sister to low-aluminium foils, reflects a dedication to craftsmanship and environmental care. His wines are elegant, site-driven, and a fresh expression of Champagne’s historic terroirs.
THE PLACE
Wines from the Montagne de Reims are defined by their structure, depth, and elegance, largely driven by the region’s dominance of Pinot Noir. The varied soils—ranging from chalk and limestone to clay and sand—contribute to a broad spectrum of expressions, from powerful and structured to finely detailed and mineral. These Champagnes often show a firm backbone, vibrant acidity, and red fruit character, making them both age-worthy and expressive of terroir.
