THE WINE
A zesty blend of muscat and pinot gris that smacks of grapefruit flavours.
THE PEOPLE
Maxime Woerly's family can trace their farming roots back to 1557 in the same village, Dambach-la-Ville in Alsace. A relative newcomer to the UK natural wine scene, Maxime grows Pinot Noir and Riesling on pockets of granite located on the Eastern face of the Vosgne mountains. His wines are fresh, structured and deeply moreish. Farming has been organic since 2010 and more recently he's been experimenting with biodynamics and zero-input agriculture.
THE PLACE
Dambach-la-Ville, nestled in the heart of Alsace, is renowned for its exceptional wines from its granite soils that impart a distinctive minerality to the wines. The region's continental climate, characterized by dry conditions due to the protective Vosges Mountains, allows for optimal grape maturation without the risk of botrytis. Dominant grape varieties include Gewurztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Gris, each expressing the unique terroir with elegance and purity. Local vintners, such as JP Rietsch and Beck-Hartweg, emphasize organic and biodynamic practices, producing wines that are both expressive and reflective of their environment.
