THE WINE

Pinot Pinot is a 50:50 blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris sourced from a friends (Matt Gregory in Leicestershire) vineyard.  A light red/dark rose with a smokey undertones that makes a compelling pairing to smoked meats.

THE PEOPLE

From her single hectare of vines in Kent — mostly Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris — Sophie runs the only woman-owned and run vineyard in the UK.  Having trained at 2Naturkinder in Germany her debut English vintage in 2022 resulted in wines known for a delicate purity and mineral-driven character, thanks to hand‑harvested fruit, foot‑crushing, indigenous‑yeast fermentations, and minimal sulphur.  With tiny yields and careful cellar work — often in reused glass demijohns or stainless steel — her wines embody finesse, a sense of place and thoughtful restraint, distinctive, and quietly expressive English wines that reflect both the land and winemaker’s dedication.  Working in partnership with her UK distributer, Wines Under the Bonnet, she sourced old Burgundian bottles from restaurants across London to recycle for her own releases.

THE PLACE

The UK natural wine scene is increasingly defined by a new wave of producers embracing low-intervention viticulture and winemaking. Across regions like Kent, Sussex, and Essex, growers are shifting toward organic and biodynamic practices, prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, and sustainability. In the cellar, many work with native yeasts, avoid filtration, and limit or eliminate sulfur use, allowing the wines to reflect their vineyard origins and the nuances of each vintage. This hands-off approach is resulting in expressive, characterful wines that challenge traditional expectations of English wine and are helping to shape a more diverse and dynamic national wine identity.
